Welcome to Broadwater Mouldings

Broadwater Mouldings Ltd, was established in 1973 and is a subsidiary of the Betts Group of companies which employs over 180 people.  We operate from a purpose built manufacturing facility with works extending to 7,500m² (81,000ft²) on a site of 17,500m² (4.3ac) near Beccles in Suffolk.

With an experienced and highly skilled team offering engineering solutions in the manufacture and supply of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) mouldings and assemblies, we have accumulated considerable expertise, providing a service spanning many industries worldwide.

“We are committed to continuous improvement, and believe value engineering is a key tool which will help us and our customers stay competitive in the future”

Design for Manufacture

During the design and development phase of a project, our engineering staff will endeavour to guide and advise our customers. We aim to arrive at a solution which will satisfy the technical and cosmetic requirements, as well as offering the best value for money.

Whilst a face-to-face meeting, or a design review would be the preferred option, timescales, circumstances and location may dictate that other methods are employed. By using CAD, many iterations of a design may be evaluated, modified and re-evaluated in a very short space of time. Simultaneous design and manufacture of mould tooling, assembly fixtures, and prototypes, reduces the time to serial component production, and therefore time to market.

What makes us different?

Broadwater’s Unique Selling Point is the ability produce and supply mouldings and assemblies with a surface finish which does not require painting or post mould coating. Painting is always an option, and is essential in some cases. However, in order to offer our customers the best value for money, we would always try to offer products with an “as moulded surface finish”, which maybe high gloss, semi-gloss, or textured.

Removing the need for painting does save money. Painting a composite panel can increase the total cost by up 70% in extreme cases.

Where durability is a consideration, gel coats have been found to outperform paint systems, particularly where chipping and scratching are an issue, and the appearance of the product is important. In fact, surface durability and cosmetic appearance retention has been a major factor in winning some new projects for Broadwater.
